Congratulations to Watercare Services & Ghella Abergeldie Joint Venture

Sophie Smith 06 April 2025

IXOM would like to congratulate Watercare Services Ltd and Ghella Abergeldie Joint Venture (GAJV) for achieving an incredible, history making milestone - completing the 16.2-kilometre Central Interceptor wastewater tunnel running under Auckland, enabling the provision of critical infrastructure that will benefit all of Auckland well into the future.

IXOM has been proud to supply one of the key underground grouting chemicals for the project. The grout fills the void between the concrete liner and the surrounding ground helping with the strength and water integrity of the tunnel.

The IXOM grout additive was locally manufactured and delivered in bulk, ensuring the GAJV had continuous supply, high quality and a safe system with minimum handling.

Sean Eccles, EVP New Zealand, said “Watercare is a key customer for IXOM.  We supply critical chemicals to all their water treatment plants, and it exciting to be able to use the wider capability of IXOM to bring them chemistries beyond water treatment and help deliver city changing infrastructure that we know will still be there in 100 years. IXOM keeps Watercare going every day, and by helping deliver this project, we are part of delivering resilience well into the future.”
