A Major Step Forward for Australia's Water Security

Sabine Wolff 05 August 2026

IXOM is pleased to announce that we have secured planning approval for a new chlorine liquefaction and packaging facility at our Botany site in New South Wales, representing a significant milestone towards strengthening Australia's sovereign manufacturing capability and critical water infrastructure.

Chlorine is essential to the delivery of safe drinking water and the treatment of wastewater for millions of Australians. This project would strengthen the resilience of Australia's supply chain for one of the nation's most critical water treatment chemicals and support the objectives of the Australian Government's Future Made in Australia agenda.

The new liquefaction and packaging capability at Botany will add to IXOM's existing manufacturing operations at Laverton, Victoria, creating a truly resilient, national supply network. When operational, either facility will be capable of supplying Australia's total chlorine demand, ensuring sovereign supply security for the Australian water industry and reducing the need to rely on imports.

As Australia's leading supplier of chlorine products to the water industry, IXOM brings more than 100 years of manufacturing, distribution and storage experience, supported by a nationwide network of storage facilities, specialist logistics, technical expertise and emergency response capability.

Like the strategic investments currently strengthening Australia's energy, critical minerals and advanced manufacturing sectors, this project is about building long-term national capability. It reinforces IXOM's commitment to supporting the water utilities, industries and communities that depend on safe, reliable and locally manufactured water treatment chemicals every day.

IXOM is proud to be investing in infrastructure that will help safeguard Australia's water future for decades to come.
