There’s a sense of scale and momentum that only global trade events can create.
At Food Ingredients China (FiC), one of the world’s leading trade events for food, beverage and ingredient innovation, thousands of conversations are happening in parallel, ideas are generated in real time, and the industry is collectively engaging with the same questions: what’s next, what’s changing, and how do we respond.
For IXOM, attending FiC China in March 2026 was an invaluable way to understand how ingredient development is happening globally. IXOM is monitoring how innovation, market volatility and supply chain risks are evolving, and identifying opportunities to solve our Life Science and Food & Beverage customers’ challenges.
Innovation in Natural Ingredients: From Concept to Capability
One of the clearest themes at FiC China this year was innovation in natural ingredients, and how they are increasingly designed to perform consistently and reliably.
Across the exhibition, suppliers increasingly focused on:
- Natural ingredients that deliver functional performance
- Processing approaches that improve stability, sensory outcomes and shelf life
- Clean‑label solutions developed with scale and regulatory readiness in mind
What stood out was a shift away from ‘ingredient novelty’ towards practical innovation — ingredients developed to work under real manufacturing and market conditions.
For IXOM, this distinction is critical, as it’s our role to assess what is commercially viable, technically practical and genuinely valuable for local food, beverage and life science applications.
Market Volatility and the Reality of Global Uncertainty
FiC exhibitors were having open, pragmatic conversations about growing market volatility. Ongoing geopolitical tensions, including the conflict in the Middle East, continue to place pressure on energy markets, transport routes and raw material availability. For the ingredient sector, this uncertainty is translating into:
- Cost volatility on key inputs
- Longer and less predictable lead times
- Heightened focus on sourcing transparency and risk management
By engaging directly with suppliers and markets under real pressure, IXOM can identify risk early, understand how it is evolving, and support customers ahead of disruption rather than responding reactively to local impacts.
This proactive engagement enables clearer decision‑making as conditions change, strengthening resilience across ingredient supply and customer planning.
Security of Ingredient Supply: A Growing Priority
Closely tied to market volatility was a strong emphasis on security of ingredient supply.
Many suppliers highlighted active reassessment of:
- Raw material sourcing strategies
- Geographic diversification
- Manufacturing and inventory resilience
In today’s environment, dependable access to ingredients can’t be taken for granted. Continuity, consistency and quality are strategic priorities for manufacturers across the food, beverage and life science sectors. As a value‑adding ingredient distributor, IXOM works with our suppliers to understand their supply structures, and with our customers to support informed sourcing and risk‑management decisions.
Strengthening Supplier Relationships Through Direct Engagement
A key focus for the IXOM team at FiC China was engaging closely with existing suppliers. Meeting in person allows us to move beyond portfolio updates to engage in deeper conversations around:
- Long‑term innovation pipelines
- Supply resilience and contingency planning
- Regional expectations and local market requirements
These conversations strengthen alignment, build transparency, and support more effective collaboration. Our strong supplier relationships remain fundamental to IXOM’s ability to deliver dependable ingredient solutions across our Food & Beverage and Life Science portfolios, particularly in times of uncertainty.
Identifying New Opportunities in a Changing Landscape
FiC China also provided an important platform to engage with potential new suppliers in the context of innovation, volatility and supply security. We focused on partners that demonstrate:
- Genuine technical capability and application expertise
- Commitment to quality, traceability and compliance
- The ability to support consistent, long‑term supply
This approach ensures that new ingredients or capabilities introduced into the IXOM portfolio strengthen the value we can deliver to customers, rather than simply expanding range.
Looking Ahead
FiC China 2026 highlighted the reality that innovation, market volatility and security of supply are deeply connected.
IXOM will continue to stay closely connected to developments in natural ingredients, anticipate and respond to market uncertainty, and support our customers and suppliers through informed engagement. By delivering practical, resilient and value‑adding solutions for our Food & Beverage and Life Science customers, IXOM is reinforcing our role as a trusted ingredient partner.
