IXOM recently completed our first DEF 40 marine bunkering delivery at Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal, a new port location marking a significant milestone in our expansion into the marine sector and regulated port environments across Australia and New Zealand.
Gaining access to operational port facilities and meeting the stringent compliance requirements associated with marine bunkering is highly challenging across Australia. Port access restrictions, safety protocols, and environmental controls require deep operational knowledge, detailed planning and close collaboration with authorities and logistics partners. This newest delivery further demonstrates IXOM’s ability to navigate complexities and execute safely within highly controlled environments.
The project involved extensive coordination with port authorities, logistics providers and our customer to satisfy all risk assessments, from site induction requirements through to transport compliance obligations. Preparation and expertise was essential to secure approval to operate on site, as well as to ensure that every aspect of the delivery aligned with NSW Port Authority and terminal requirements.
From a supply perspective, our IXOM team enabled DEF 40 product availability under tight timelines, including weekend production and loading, while transport planning ensured suitable equipment and safety controls were in place. Additional environmental safeguards were incorporated to meet port safety standards.
Urea-based solutions are a key enabler of emissions control for modern vessels, and this new delivery establishes IXOM’s capability to support increased demand at scale. IXOM is also well positioned to support broader marine chemical requirements, including liquid caustic soda used in exhaust gas scrubber systems. Scrubbers play a critical role in reducing sulphur emissions from marine fuel, and reliable access to high-quality caustic soda is essential to keeping these systems operating efficiently and compliantly. IXOM’s experience in manufacturing, handling and supplying hazardous liquids positions us strongly to support this growing need within the maritime industry.
As environmental regulations continue to shape marine operations, customers require partners who can effectively manage compliance and operational risk. This milestone delivery reinforces IXOM’s role as a trusted, end to end chemical solutions provider for marine and industrial customers operating in highly regulated environments across Australia and New Zealand.
IXOM remains committed to enabling safe, compliant and reliable supply solutions while supporting our customers to solve their challenges across a range of industries.
